A book club with a performance twist, anyone with an interest in Shakespeare, writing, telling stories and performing will love meeting weekly to discuss the concept of a "Strong Female Character". Why are there no "Strong Male Characters" - what does it mean to be a "Strong Female?" How would/should Willy S have written his Cordelias, his Beatrices, his Lady Macbeths and Juliets today?

"Strong Female Characters" is aimed at the rigorous re-invention and investigation of the role of women in the works of William Shakespeare. In scrutinising his most famous monologues from women, and centralising uniquely marginalised voices, this class will explore the familiar canonical texts of Shakespeare through a feminist lens and reimagine the division of power to his "Strong Female Characters".
Facilitated by GirlsWillBeGirls.org founder Claire Macallister (who is also a theatre wiz), this class is open to anyone who identifies as a woma(y)n.
