Hydro2Orbit: Engaging youths in Engineering

Hydro2Orbit

RMIT Space Technology Association (RSTA)

Hydro2Orbit is RSTA’s community outreach & educational program.

The program consists of RSTA members attending a school, and teaching a group of Year 8-10 students some of the basic physics and mathematics, under the guise of a Water Rocket Competition.

Over the course of the day students learn about concepts such as air pressure, centre of gravity, rocket stability, and parachute design, and are able to implement what they have learned by building their own bottle rockets to launch.

The aim of the program is twofold; engaging students in STEM fields, and to broaden the recognition of RSTA within the wider community.

Members who attend will have a rewarding experience, guiding the students, helping turn their ideas into reality, and have a hand in inspiring them in a field that many of us are passionate about.
